Blood diamonds. Indonesia august 2014

One thing that disturbs me many times after my trips is thing how they are showing us commercials here. Example talking about diamonds. First of all look at this picture:

There it is. Diamonds and beautiful woman, and everything is so nice. But that is far from truth.

I went to see with Tailah place where they are digging diamonds. It was hot day when we arrived on little village which is near to pit where they search diamonds. We start to walk on dusty narrow road behind village. Soon we arrive to area where men are working:

Tailah is telling me that these men are working on hard and long days and get salary for one day about 25000 rupiah which is about 1,60 euros for day!!!! So now you can go to see on jewel shop what diamonds costs there and thing how much grease someone is getting on every corner on bread.... But they are not these workers. And if you think "yes but i deserve to have these jewels, i paid for them and i worked for them" I say to you, no you not. Buying these jewels supports modern day slavery and no matter how much you work or what no one doesn't actually need jewels. That is just vanity. There is too much moral laziness in this world which supports this kind of activity and a few is shoving these things to world.

Tailah told me that month ago there was dying 5 workers because men were working when there was raining and edges of the hole were collapsed so they died under the sand. And these men are so poor that they have to work even on rainy days. So this is reality behind diamonds.

This is some part of searching diamonds on sand.

Some diamonds or what ever they have found:

after this we went to see processing diamonds:

So this is story about diamonds. And slavery behind that. But i have also seen how making tobacco is near some kind of slavery. And many other things where people are working long and hard but still don't get good salary. And i'm telling you that i can show image and pictures about these kind of things but that's still nothing before you actually go and see these things alive, seeing human beings under this kind of life, and understanding how wrong it is. Makes you think 2 times when you buy something new that do i really need this? And if i buy this do i support some kind of slavery somewhere? These are questions that i think we should think more often when we buy something, specially when buying something that i really don't need. Just my opinion.

Next time i tell more nicer thing, my jungle trip with Tailah when we were visiting on little jungle village, that was so cool :)
